Opera House Hotel “Lai Chun Yuen”
There was once a famed Chinese opera house in the heart of Chinatown of which opera stars came all the way from China and Hong Kong to perform at. Patrons sat around small tables while opera singers performed on stage. Opium smoking and gambling activities also occurred on the grounds of Lai Chun Yuen.
There were also private cubicles for discreet activities. Converted to a Cinema in the early 1900’s until it was bombed in World War II. “Lai Chun Yuen” was left in appalling condition and needed much restoration work to restore the building back to the standards that can been seen today.
Located in the heart of Chinatown, this brilliantly appointed and fantastically located spot offers you all the luxuries of the finest hotels in Chinatown combined with the benefits of the Opera House Hotel name. Steeped in Chinese culture and history as brought here by the earliest immigrants to our city.
